Deceptions of Power

A young mage seeking knowledge enters a ruthless political game where every success creates a new enemy.

Kalamar sees only the bright possibilities that his new future offers. His youthful inexperience imagines only the greatest heights as he begins life as the Court Wizard's protege. This new chapter in his life will be his greatest adventure as he pursues his magical studies in the capital.

The political denizens of Stormlake however, have other ideas. They are more than willing to use him to further their own ambitions, whether he wishes it or not. His master may have taught him what politics is, but experiencing its sometimes vicious effects is something else entirely.

He will either adapt to this new, unexpected environment, or his dreams of magical greatness will be quickly extinguished.

THE WORLD OF STORMLAKE

Stormlake is a place of fog-drenched streets, towering halls, and whispered conversations in shadowed corridors. Noble houses feud behind polite smiles, the Court watches every move, and rumors travel faster than any spell. To the powerful, people are resources—useful, expendable, or dangerous.

Kalamar’s magic makes him valuable. His inexperience makes him vulnerable. In Stormlake, even choosing not to take sides is a choice that others will happily make for him.

Kalamar: From Farm Fields to the Heart of Power

Kalamar begins as an idealist—hopeful, intelligent, and more than a little naïve. Leaving the isolation of his family’s farm, he arrives in Stormlake wide-eyed and eager to prove himself. But the capital offers more than libraries and spellbooks.

Every conversation holds a second meaning. Every invitation carries a price. Kalamar’s journey is not just about mastering magic—it’s about learning who to trust, what to sacrifice, and how far he’s willing to go to protect the people and principles he cares about.
